Functional Movement Training

Functional Movement Training Based on Developmental Kinesiology

Back to natural movement.

What Is Developmental Kinesiology?

Did you know that the foundations of how we move are established during the first months of life? Before a baby first stands up and begins to walk, they go through a natural process of motor development – learning to roll over, support themselves on their hands, crawl, and gradually master more complex movements.

Developmental kinesiology explores how movement patterns, stability, and coordination develop as we grow. Its principles also form the basis of Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS), a concept developed by Professor Pavel Kolář.

In our classes, we draw inspiration from the natural developmental positions of infants and learn how to engage our muscles more effectively, stabilize the body, and coordinate movement with breathing.

It's not about speed or the number of repetitions. What matters is the quality of movement, proper support, muscle coordination, and understanding how our bodies work during exercise.

The exercises can be adapted to individual abilities and are also suitable for beginners. These classes are not individual physiotherapy sessions and do not replace professional rehabilitation care.

Please bring your own exercise mat, comfortable clothing, a towel, and something to drink.

What Are the Benefits of Regular Practice?

Better core stability – focuses on the coordination of deep stabilizing muscles that support the spine and trunk.

More natural movement patterns – helps develop more mindful and coordinated movement during exercise and everyday activities.

Better posture – teaches you how to work with support, balance, and proper body alignment.

Connecting breath with movement – focuses on the role of the diaphragm, breathing, and core stabilization.

Improved coordination and body awareness – develops the ability to engage different muscle groups in a coordinated way.

What Can You Expect During a Class?

You can expect exercises inspired by the natural motor development of infants. We will practise in various positions, including lying on our backs or stomachs, supporting ourselves in different ways, and moving on all fours.

We will focus on proper body alignment, mindful muscle engagement, and connecting movement with breath. Some exercises may look simple at first, but performing them correctly can be surprisingly challenging!

Who Are the Classes Suitable For?

The class is suitable for anyone who wants to better understand how their body works, improve stability, and develop healthier movement habits.

Mgr. Radka Grace

Movement is a natural part of Radka's life and a constant source of inspiration. She has completed instructor training courses in Pilates and dance and continues to develop her knowledge through professional courses and training with physiotherapists and movement coaches. She enjoys combining elements of Pilates and yoga with the principles of developmental kinesiology, exploring ways to promote healthy and natural movement.

During her university studies, she became interested in Eastern movement and meditation practices. She has been practising Zhong Yuan Qigong for over six years.

She also loves dancing and spending time in nature and believes that movement should above all bring joy, relaxation, and greater body awareness. At FI MU, she works in marketing and communications, and through MOVE@FI, she combines her professional work with her passion for movement.
