Pilates & barre

What Is Pilates?

Pilates is a method of exercise developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. It focuses on mindful and controlled movement, good posture, coordination, and connecting movement with breath.

At its core is the activation of the deep core stabilizing muscles, strengthening the core and developing a balance between strength, stability, and mobility.

Exercises are performed in a smooth, controlled manner, with an emphasis on precision and quality of movement. Pilates is not about the number of repetitions or maximum physical effort, but rather about how the entire body engages and works together during movement.

Regular practice helps improve body awareness and develop movement habits that can also benefit us in everyday activities.

What About Barre?

Barre is a workout inspired by ballet training that combines elements of ballet, Pilates, and strength training. It involves controlled movements, balance exercises, and often small, repetitive movements designed to strengthen muscles.

A ballet barre or another stable support may be used during the workout. No previous dance experience is required.

Combining Pilates and barre creates a varied workout that develops strength, stability, coordination, dynamic movement, and grace.

In our classes, we focus on strengthening, stretching, and proper muscle engagement. You can look forward to mindful movement, breathing exercises, and an opportunity to slow down and focus on yourself.

Please bring your own exercise mat, comfortable sportswear, a towel, and something to drink.

Give your body the movement it deserves.

What Are the Benefits of Regular Practice?

A stronger core – helps strengthen the deep abdominal and back muscles that are important for stability.

Better posture – develops awareness and control of body alignment during movement.

Improved mobility and flexibility – combines strengthening with stretching and muscle relaxation.

Better balance and coordination – supports stability and more precise control of movement.

Mindful breathing and concentration – connecting breath with movement helps improve body awareness and release tension.
